Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
According to the BFI, distribution is about 'releasing and sustaining film in the market place'. I feel the best studio to do this for our product is Film4. Film4 is owned by Channel4 who are "largely commercially self-funded", and are ultimately publicly owned; "originally a subsidiary of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA)". Film4 are a British digital television channel available in the United Kingdom, which would be perfect for our target audience as the people who we have researched have been from the UK alone. I believe that Film4 would be a good company to distribute my film as they target a lot of growing films and are responsible for helping a number of films in the UK, similar to us.

We could also look at applying to the BFI for funding our distribution. This will benefit our budget and managing techniques as we will gain professional advise. I feel our film would be distributed in the UK only at first. We would attempt a limited release strategy to see how well the film turns out which will help support our budget. In order to increase the chances of our film becoming highly successful in becoming a national film we would release simultaneously following the technique of the hit British UK film 'A Field in England'. Our film could use the website set up by the film for a lot of advise and help on our distribution methods.

Lastly, I feel social media would play a huge part in our marketing and distribution period of release. By doing this it will create a lot of word of mouth spread and recommendations to friends/family. A film like ours would benefit from the success social media can bring and is an easy/less costly method of marketing. To do this we would look towards Twitter initially as a large age range use the social media platform. We could then look towards Facebook for the older audience and Instagram for the younger audience. Twitter would be used mostly for updates and getting the viewers eager to see the film, Facebook for behind the scenes clips and Instagram for the inside images and advertising.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
How did you attract/address your audience?

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
